Science and Research
Scientific research, field survey, monitoring, dissemination and raised
awareness are as central to The HCT’s mission statement as direct
conservation action. We are focusing heavily on the development of
national ‘Conservation Status’-monitoring schemes for the British rare herpetofauna species, and promoting academic research into amphibian and
reptile ecology, biology and conservation.
Research projects
The HCT is currently involved in various other research initiatives that
will feed into NARRS and improve our ability to monitor species status
effectively.

The HCT & BHS Joint Scientific Meeting: “Amphibian and Reptile
biology, ecology &
conservation”
Each year, The HCT organises a joint one-day conference with the British
Herpetological Society entitled “Amphibian and reptile biology, ecology and conservation”.
These conferences are held in
Bournemouth, early in December. An eclectic range of speakers present research on a wide range of subjects, and generous breaks give plenty of time for getting together with old and new friends. There
is a social event arranged to coincide with the conference. Registration
is at a concessionary rate for ARG or BHS members, students and concessions.
Each year a flyer can be obtained from our download pages
(here). Places fill
up fast, so please register by sending a cheque for the appropriate amount to The HCT
as soon as the conference is announced.
