Land Management Advice
The HCT, with many years of managing various habitats for the benefit of not only its
amphibians and reptiles but also its many other fauna and flora, has built up a considerable
expertise in this field.
This is not a thing we wish to keep to ourselves. We know that there are many
organisations, individuals and businesses who also wish to manage their land
similarly but lack the expertise to match their desires and enthusiasm.
And "land" does not mean just vast acres of heath, miles of sand dune
or ponds so large that they are nearly lakes. While we do manage these we are
only too pleased to advise regarding far smaller areas, right down to a corner of
your garden or a garden pond. Most of us can, with a bit of thought and effort
create and maintain a wildlife haven, be it small or large or anywhere in between
If you are in this position and want the joy of seeing our amphibians and reptiles
thriving in an area you are responsible for, please
contact us, and we will give you the best possible advice to assist.
You can also follow these links for guidance in
amphibian and reptile habitat management. A
leaflet outlining what can be done to promote amphibian and reptile conservation
in gardens or other small areas, such as allotments or school grounds, is
available in our downloads section
here.
Natural England has produced a series of ‘Species Information Notes’; which cover a range of topics, including biology, legislation, farming and agri-environment schemes.
